The 2012 MTV Movie Awards are this weekend and gratefully they never take themselves too seriously. The whole show is basically an excuse to plug the summer movie season and bring out the stars to mug and laugh at themselves. Speaking of laughing at themselves, I put together a new Snakkle gallery of the MTV Movie nominees featuring pics from their youth. Biggest shock is this guy…do you know who he is? I was floored…

As I said to Jonathan Frakes (Cmdr. Riker) when we chatted for this piece about his years on Star Trek: The Next Generation, how is it possible that it’s been that long? He agreed and was just as freaked out as I was. We talk about that, Riker’s affection for a certain Betazoid and more in SFX Issue #223 that celebrates the sequel series with more than 17 pages of features and new interviews.

If you are a Falling Skies fan, season two is almost here and I talk to new showrunner Remi Aubuchon about where humanity is after the season one cliffhanger. Noah Wylie also chimes in about Tom Mason’s decision to get on that alien boat. Good or bad call? Let’s say it’s not sunshine and puppies.

Snow White and the Huntsman comes out this week and I am abnormally hopeful that it’s as good as the trailers make it look. I’ve been a fan of modern, revisionist fairy tales for a long time, especially reading Ellen Datlow and Terri Windling’s incredible fairy tale collections. So, I want SWatH (as the cool kids call it) to be excellent, but it also got me thinking of how Hollywood is starting to embrace the old school fairy tale heroine as a proactive protagonist in some recent films. Thus, I consider some other fairy tales that are ripe for a reworking in my new Movies.com feature 8 Great … Fairy Tale Heroines That Could Use an Action Reboot.

It’s that graduation time of year again and my latest Snakkle gallery let’s you guess the celeb in their mortarboards and tassels from the past.

For TVGeekArmy, I was part of a conference call with Gillian Jacobs (Britta Perry) and Oscar-winner Jim Rash (Dean Pelton) this week for the Community finale marathon this Thursday, May 17th. Three brand new episodes culminate into the third season finale and there will be 8-bit fun, Evil Abed and Chang overthrowing to be watched.

It’s all we get that’s new from Greendale for some time, so savor it people!

The Dictator, Sacha Baron Cohen’s latest mockumentary project hit theaters this week so I pulled together a Snakkle gallery charting the notoriously shy comedian’s body of work. It’s niiiiiiiiiiiiice! (GONG!)

Battleship hits the U.S. this Friday and most people are just confounded that the low-tech kid’s game has morphed into this loud, showy, aliens-attack-us blockbuster. Plenty still don’t get that board games should be made into movies.

Thus, I play devil’s advocate for Movies.com this week and come up with 8 classic board games with plausible movie premises. Would you see any of them? Will you see Battleship? Hell, what board game movie would you want to see?

Is everyone on board with demanding a Tim Burton/Johnny Depp intervention? I mean full out Comfort Inn, stern faces in a circle, Kleenex boxes on the coffee table with an end result that the pair take a time out for like 5 years? Dark Shadows was the final straw in my book. But maybe a lot of blame goes to Depp who really needs to back away from the makeup trailer too.

As evidence….my latest Snakkle gallery celebrating (or indicting ) every weird character Johnny Depp has come up with in the last two decades.

A complete gentleman, funny and exceptionally thoughtful and warm, we talk about his history with Trek, directing and his passion for art. We also feature some beautiful spreads with his photography.
